City Building celebrates its talent at its eighth annual Apprentice Awards

Posted On July 2, 2014 By big partnership In News /

Leading Scottish construction company, City Building, has rewarded the tradespeople of tomorrow at its annual Apprentice Awards which took place on Friday 20 June.

More than 60 apprentices across all sectors of the business including, administration, plumbing, joinery, and electrical were shortlisted for the awards which took place at the City Chambers in Glasgow. The event celebrated the excellent work carried out by the company’s emerging talent.

20 awards were handed out at the event which saw apprentice joiner, Anthony Clarke, named City Building Apprentice of the year.

Anthony (19) from Toryglen said: “I was really proud to be nominated so to actually win is a great confidence boost for me and my abilities.

“The awards are an event that all the apprentices work towards throughout the year and work hard to make the group that gets nominated so I’m really pleased that all my hard work paid off.”

This marks the first year that the awards have taken place at this scale and is in recognition of the hard work and dedication displayed by all its young staff.

City Building chair, Councillor Paul Carey, presented Anthony with the award.

Cllr Carey said: “I was so proud to see such an excellent turnout of apprentices who had been shortlisted for awards. It’s very important to recognise the work undertaken by our next generation of young tradespeople as they will be the ones who continue to develop our city as the year’s progress.

“Anthony was a deserving winner having displayed the commitment care and dedication to his work that has come to be expected of a City Building skilled tradesperson.”

The shortlisted apprentices were recommended by their managers and went through a rigorous interview process by the management team in order to be selected.

The judges highlighted that Anthony is a “great asset to City Building and a great role model for other young apprentices”. It was also noted that Anthony is often “sought after if a tradesman needs a hand.”
